Facts are irrefutable truths. As such, this page is limited in scope to those things that can be established without question, debate or argument. For example, on January 5, 2026, a 16 oz latte plus tax at Starbucks costs $6.17. Qualifiers are necessary to make this a truth since the price may change according to date or location. We have all seen gasoline prices fluctuate on a daily basis and may be different at a different station across the street.

Simple math such as 1 + 1 = 2 suggests that sciences based on math can give us truths about the universe. But breaking down quantum mechanics to the atomic or sub-atomic levels involves a math of probability rather than certainty, and advanced mathematics demonstrate truths in ways that are well beyond the average person’s ability to understand.

The old axiom that encourages us to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes is metaphorical, yet has great practical application. When we look at behaviors that differ from our sense of what’s proper or normal from another person’s background and experience, we are able to draw on that perspective to gain empathy. And when one is able to do this, they begin to function at the fringes of The Gulch.
