Maxims from an old fart

Put others ahead of self in your thoughts, words and deeds.

Think not in terms of good or bad: consider what is stronger or weaker, better or worse.

Enjoy the things you create – take time to savor them – otherwise, what’s the point?

Praise God in all circumstances.

Be thankful for what you have rather than focused on what you lack.

Rules without purpose are no rules at all.

Ethics, manners, and coping with annoying individuals

Kindness and generosity are qualities to be desired and pursued. At the same time, emotional health demands boundaries. Hopefully your life is free from an acquaintance who will suck you dry, but such people walk among us and will intrude with insidious subtlety.

Entitlement – excuse to claim something one doesn’t deserve; a “quality” everyone exhibits at one point or another, but is increasingly evident among the wealthy and ruling classes

Bigotry – abhorrent belittling of someone who’s not part of the in-crowd, typically caused by unfounded suspicions leading to fear and on to hate
